Centre Kèmndà Blog - Feb 3, 2021

PGJyLz4=Centre Kèmndà is an organization that was founded in 2018 by Obed Berasngar and his family to address the needs of vulnerable children in the area of southern Chad where he grew up, an area where there are currently no social programs whatsoever available to help orphaned children. While Obed and his family have been busy raising support to personally move from Canada to Chad to lead this work, they have depended on family and friends in the area to volunteer as urgent needs arise. Since the very beginning, Centre Kèmndà has been focusing particularly on a group of street children that are living in the market in Koumra, Chad. For various reasons, mostly rooted in deep poverty, these children have no support systems whatsoever and literally live on the street, daily scrounging for food, trying to keep themselves alive.Through Centre Kèmndà, we have been able to get to know many of these children personally. We have learned of some of the tragic stories that have caused them to live in these very difficult conditions.Stéfane, Nouja & Pierre (not their reals names) are three small boys that live in Koumra, in the south of Chad. These boys have been living on the street because their parents have passed away or are unable to take care of them. One night, Stéfane was sleeping on the edge of a street corner when he was run over by a drunk driver. Having recently heard of kind people who help street children, Séverin struggled to drag his injured body to the home of these people, where he collapsed until he was discovered in the morning by Centre Kemnda volunteers who were able to treat his wounds and provide him a safe place to stay while he healed from his injuries. Shortly after this event, Nouja also showed up on the doorstep of this family’s home in a terrified state. His brothers had tried to kidnap him and send him to the north of the country to work as a slave for nomads. The local authorities have intervened and allowed Nouja to remain in the safety of Centre Kemnda’s host family. Pierre recently showed up at this same family’s home with a leg and thigh covered in horrendous burns that he received as a result of an incident of abuse. Centre Kemnda volunteers were able to have Pierre’s leg treated at the hospital, and although Pierre wanted to remain with them, the host family was not able to take him in as the resources are currently so limited. As word has spread of Centre Kemnda’s presence and activities, more children have shown up at the door of our volunteer’s home, begging for help.At Centre Kèmndà we believe that all children are created in God’s image and all children have a right to food, shelter & education. We believe that God has called and equipped specific people to help orphans, these most precious and vulnerable ones who are close to His heart. Obed Berasngar, his family and the team of volunteers of Centre Kemnda all feel burdened to be the hands and feet of Jesus to these particular children. We need a team of prayer warriors and financial partners to come alongside us to enable Centre Kèmndà to provide a safe, healthy, good environment for street children to have their needs met, a place for them to flourish and grow strong and realize their potential.PGJyLz4=Prayer Request

  • That the Berasngar family can be on the ground in Chad by the end of the year

  • That we would be able to have enough support to start a daily program through the help of our volunteers in the summer months that would provide a safe space for 20 children to have access to drinking water and a daily meal, a shower, a supervised afternoon program with literacy, sports and life skills’ activities, as well as medical treatment for urgent needs

  • That Koumra would remain COVID-free as it currently is
