Diary of an Anti-Trafficking Worker

Today I played Stella Ella Olla with four victims of trafficking for child pornography. They were discovered an hour before in a raid that For Freedom International was invited by our government partners to come and learn from. I watched as police officers and social workers spoke with their mothers, who had no idea what was going on in their shared home, whose worlds were breaking apart around them. Family members arrested, phone calls to be made, heart-wrenching interviews to go through. The mom is walking around holding her daughter's teddy bear, perplexed. But the children play, as always.  There are swings and a field at the social welfare office, and we ran around playing tag before eating snacks and drawing pictures. The drawing was the only activity that interested the oldest girl. Now she looks calm on the inside as well as on the outside. She’s helping her younger sister and cousins, smiles tugging up her cheeks like the pulling back of a curtain. What will happen to her, to them all? How do you go back to the home that is also the place of exploitation? How do you go forward into a future marred by loss? Can they put the pieces of their fragmented life back together and create something new? Can they become whole again, despite the chips and cracks? There is hope. There is always hope in Jesus. He can silence rumor mongers in their small community; he can knit strength into the fabric of their family; he can instill the knowledge of infinite worth and unfathomable love.  We told them to look there, at God's love. Could we have done more as we shadowed local authorities? I'm not sure, but God certainly can do more. He already snatched these children out of darkness. Let's pray that is only the beginning. There is always hope in Jesus. PGJyLz4=

Prayer Request:

  • Pray for the survivors of child trafficking, that God would heal their hearts and bring them into the knowledge of his love

  • Pray for the children currently being exploited, that they would be rescued and restored

  • Pray for those using child pornography, that they would be convicted of sin so that demand for this heinous crime would diminish
