PGJyLz4=In 2011, a year after the devastating earthquake that killed hundreds of thousands, we began working with two pastors and a local business owner on the small island of La Gonâve off the coast of Haiti. La Gonâve is often referred to as “the island Haiti forgot” because it is cut-off in many ways from the mainland. Beginning as an organization responding to a crisis, we have worked hard to move in the direction of rehabilitation and development through education support and job creation in the community. The goal of PiFò Haiti is to spread the gospel message, and help Haitians gain back dignity, power, and choice. We desire to live out Jesus Christ’s call for us to love one another by using our time and resources to empower the locals of La Gonâve.One of our amazing leaders, Monal Irame, is an evangelist, teacher, father and a husband. He was a drug dealer on the mainland during his teen years and into his 20’s. Monal says there were many times that God called to him and wanted him to change his ways, but he was stubborn and wanted to control his own life. He felt powerful and didn’t care about other people. When he finally gave everything over to Jesus, he knew that the power he thought he had was just a lie. His true power rested in the unfailing love of Jesus. “I will never ever go back to my old ways. I only want Jesus, every day.” Monal has a prayer program on the local radio station five days a week and spends much of his time mentoring youth and evangelizing throughout the community. He speaks truth without judgement because he knows what it’s like living in an environment where you feel there is no hope.We are so grateful that Haiti was spared the potential devastation of COVID-19 during the past year. Even scientists have been trying to figure out why there were so few deaths in Haiti over the past year. But if you ask the people of La Gonâve they will tell you, “This is something only God could do. He knows we have enough to handle so He has shown us mercy.” Unfortunately there have been many new deaths reported as a new strain of COVID has entered the country. We pray God will continue to protect the people of Haiti and their fragile healthcare system. At the end of 2019, the current organization began a partnership with GCF and rebranded as PiFò Haiti, which in Créole means “Stronger Haiti”. Our leaders and coworkers wanted the name of the organization to reflect where they have come from and where we continue to go. We are all stronger working together. Each time we have stepped out in faith, God has blessed us beyond what we could imagine. What began as an emergency response to a tragedy has turned into community development, job creation and spiritual mentorship for hundreds of students over the past 10 years.PGJyLz4=Prayer RequestWe have continued to grow over the past 10 years and that means we are in need of expanding and repairing two of the school buildings. We have been presented with the opportunity to purchase land to build a school that can accommodate more students. Our initial conversation was around building a second storey at the current location, but God has opened a new and exciting door for us. A large piece of land in an ideal location has become available to purchase. Please pray for wisdom and discernment as PiFò Haiti makes some important decisions and seeks to raise funds for this amazing opportunity. This space will allow us room to grow in the future and will provide a much-needed, safe play area for the students.PGJyLz4=DONATE NOWPGJyLz4=PC9icj48L2JyPg==https://gcfcanada.comwp-content/uploads/2020/11/GCF-Logo-2.pngABOUT GCFSince 2002, the Great Commission Foundation has been providing a place for individuals, ministries and organizations to thrive in all areas of ministry in order to do just that – fulfill the Great Commission of Jesus Christ and to help the impoverished. We are passionate about simplifying Ministry & Mission.
