For Freedom International Blog – Sep 15, 2021

When I felt called to serve on a newly forming team among the exploited and least-reached in Thailand, there was excitement at the prospect of eventful front-line work. By the time I had been serving with For Freedom International for nearly three years, the dust of my glamourous expectations had settled. In its wake, I discovered something more profound than the imagined whirlwind dramatic liberation; I discovered the ministry of waiting.Through his infinite grace, Jesus called our team to be a part of his plan for Thailand, and he is the Author of the extent and effect of our part in his cosmic story. During those early days of pioneering work, my primary role seemed to be waiting on God and waiting with his people. While initially it felt remarkably slow-paced, now I believe there are few tasks more exhilarating than being present with God and others. God does not waste anything, including time, and looking back I can see how he used that period to grow my identity in Christ, create team unity, and plant many seeds for fruitful ministry to come. And fruit did come! After years of praying, our team saw Jesus strengthen and increase the number of believers in this spiritually dark land. After months of persevering, we saw Jesus move mountains of Thai policy in favour of police partnership and anti-trafficking efforts. And after hours of sitting in a police station with a victim of sexual exploitation, we saw Jesus do deep soul work in her while we whispered of his love. There is beauty in waiting.Jesus is never impatient, rushed, or worried. He waits with us, and he waits for us. He is “not wanting anyone to parish, but everyone to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). If we find ourselves in a slow season, perhaps there is a deeper phenomenon underway. The most daring thing to do might be to wait with God, trusting his power and seeking his presence for ourselves and this world.PGJyLz4=PGJyLz4=Prayer Request

  • Pray for the Lord to send more workers to the harvest field of Thailand, where less than 0.1 % of the population are believers

  • Pray for the partnerships For Freedom International has with the local church as well as government agencies, that God would use all parties working together to rescue and restore victims of trafficking
