Around the world there is an urgent need for pediatric wheelchairs to relieve the suffering of children and families living with disability.
Since launching, our Joni and Friends Wheels for the World™ program has provided more than 230,000 wheelchairs to people with disabilities, many of them children like Chisomo.
Moms and dads do all they can to help their children thrive. While they long to provide a wheelchair for their child, most simply could never afford one.
You can provide a custom-fitted pediatric wheelchair and change the life of a kid like Chisomo!
Ten-year-old Chisomo and his family live in Zambia. Born with cerebral palsy, Chisomo can’t walk or speak, and he needs assistance for most daily tasks. His father, Raphael, works in security. In addition to selling produce from their yard, Chisomo’s mother, Helen, cares for him and his younger siblings. Chisomo’s parents thank God for his life and do all they can to help him thrive. While they have longed to provide a wheelchair for their son, they simply could never afford one.
When our Wheels for the World™ team came to Zambia for the first time, life changed for Chisomo and his family as Chisomo received a custom-fitted pediatric wheelchair! “We are so happy. Our prayer was to have a wheelchair for Chisomo,” says Raphael. “For us it wasn’t easy carrying him from one point to another. We used to put him on our backs when going to church or going to visit relatives. But now it will be easier for us to move using a wheelchair.”
Because of his wheelchair, Chisomo can go outside to be with his friends. And his mother can sell goods at the market to better support the family. “With this wheelchair gift, I am feeling so good because traveling will no longer be a problem. I will no longer feel tired or be troubled in so many things,” says Helen.
Raphael sends his thanks on behalf of his family: “We really appreciate you, Joni and Friends, for this support. May God continue blessing you.”
Your donation can provide a pediatric wheelchair for a child in need! Each wheelchair, hand-delivered along with a Bible and the hope of Jesus, changes lives, families, and communities, now and for eternity.
