Convoy of Hope - Hurricane Melissa Response

The monstrous Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica as the strongest storm in the island’s known history. Sustained 185 mph winds battered buildings where thousands of people sheltered. Storm surge made the coastline unrecognizable. Entire communities were destroyed.

“The entire Jamaica is really broken because of what has happened,” Jamaican Minister of Education Dana Morris Dixon told the Associated Press.

Elsewhere in the Caribbean, Michelet Dégange said Hurricane Melissa left him homeless. “There is no place to rest the body; we are hungry.”

“It’s going to be very hard to get back up,” said Sheryl, a resident of one of the many communities left in ruins.

Infrastructure is damaged, supply lines are down, and people need help to meet their daily needs. Even in the face of such loss, hope is rising.

Convoy of Hope is on the ground in Jamaica, distributing relief supplies to people in desperate need. Convoy has already provided more than 10,000 meals, and we are just getting started. Additionally, Convoy is distributing family food kits of nonperishable food items across the western side of the island, where Hurricane Melissa made landfall.

Every bottle of clean water and every box filled with food is more than supplies; it carries the message that amid the devastation there is hope, and that help is here.

Prayer Request:

Please pray for the families and communities affected by Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica and across the Caribbean, asking God to bring them comfort, safety, and hope as they rebuild. Pray that God will work through faithful donors like you to provide food, water, and essential resources through Convoy of Hope’s relief efforts.
