About This Project

Brevity Cancer Support exists to come alongside those impacted by cancer - offering connection, support, and the love and hope of Jesus within our communities. Cancer changes the landscape of a life. It affects not only the person receiving a diagnosis, but spouses, children, parents, friends, careers, finances, relationships, and faith. Brevity Cancer Support seeks to meet people in that landscape and remind them that they do not have to walk through it alone. Through Christian cancer support groups, one-to-one encouragement, prayer, practical care packages, and community connection, Brevity Cancer Support provides a safe place where people can ask difficult questions, share honestly, be heard without judgment, and explore what faith means in the midst of cancer. Our goal is to build a sustainable faith-based cancer support ministry that can serve people throughout the Calgary and central/southern Alberta area, and, over time, expand its reach across Canada. We prayerfully seek to provide 50 care packages each month to individuals beginning cancer treatment, while developing resources and partnerships that allow more people to experience practical care, genuine community, prayer, and the enduring hope of Jesus.

The greatest challenge currently facing Brevity Cancer Support is the gap between the need we see and our current capacity to meet it. Cancer touches thousands of individuals and families in our communities, yet many people struggle to find support that addresses the emotional, relational, practical, and spiritual dimensions of the cancer journey. As a growing ministry, Brevity Cancer Support currently operates with limited financial resources. We have been faithful with all that God provides, seeking to fulfill the Great Commission by bringing practical care and the hope of Christ to those impacted by cancer. Our Care Package Initiative brings hope into what is often a fearful and uncertain time. Packages (each with a cost over $20) are distributed to individuals beginning their very first cancer treatment and contain meaningful, practical items and personal encouragement. We want to ensure that Brevity Cancer Support grows responsibly, at God's leading. Our challenge is not simply to reach more people, but to develop the resources, partnerships, and infrastructure necessary to serve them well and sustainably.

Brevity Cancer Support is further responding to God's leading by building partnerships with churches, individuals, businesses, and organizations that share a desire to support people impacted by cancer. We have developed Christ-centred curriculum designed specifically for group settings, to help people navigate the cancer journey through Scripture, honest conversation, prayer, and community. As partnerships develop, these resources are designed to help equip churches and other organizations to provide meaningful support to people in their communities who are impacted by cancer. Financial support allows Brevity Cancer Support to sustain and expand our Care Package initiative, develop and deliver support-group programming, cover necessary ministry and administrative expenses, and reach people who may otherwise have little access to faith-based cancer support. We are particularly grateful for partners who can provide recurring financial support, sponsor care packages, donate needed supplies, volunteer, or connect Brevity Cancer Support with churches, businesses, and other organizations that may want to become involved. Every contribution helps create opportunities for people impacted by cancer to experience practical care, meaningful community, prayer, and the hope of Jesus when they need it most.
