About This Project

The Jane and Finch Ministry (sometimes called Jane & Finch Missional Community) exists to equip young men for theological leadership, while at the same time providing families who’ve suffered the trauma of child abuse with support and resources often difficult to access in institutional structures. Many families testify to their weariness and hesitancy with fully embracing the currently available methods used for accessing safety and protection, due to the adversarial and suspicious posture that permeates the structures they’re enjoined to immediately seek refuge in for protection. We walk alongside with compassion and truth to help these victims navigate the labyrinth of systems designed to create aggressors and combatants, rather than inspire Hope for measurable outcomes of wholeness and spiritual health after the abuse.

Regarding the young men being trained for leadership, we accomplish this by offering weekly home-based fellowships, 1-on-1 counselling and opportunities for northern Ontario wilderness excursions. The neighbourhood context of our daily encounters with the youth, being one of gang saturation, cycles of poverty and negative media stereotypes, make the necessity of personal fathering-mentoring relationships essential.

The Gospel is the forethought, not the after-thought of what impels the work, being careful to avoid the corrosive tendencies to blend politics and systemic upheaval that tragically undergirds most of the content directed at the youth and families we minister too.
