About this Project

Our purpose is to empower the next generation of Christ centered leaders who will transform communities. Our Three pillars (Youth Empowerment, Sustainability, Community transformation) represent the core of the work we do in empowering youth, equipping the church, restoring families, and advocating for the vulnerable in Africa. We strive to see young people become leaders in their families and their communities. We provide them with hope and a brighter future. 2 Timothy 2:1

Hope of Africa registered in South Africa as The Hope of Africa South Africa in 2019. The struggles South African youth face are huge. With a unemployment rate of 34.4%, we need to encourage the youth, teach them a skill, and empower local communities. We at THOASA aim to inspire the youth and equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to make a difference in their lives as well as their community.

There are many child-led homes in Nkomazi. A “child-led home” means the oldest person responsible for finances, clothing, and shelter for a household of multiple people is under the age of 12. If this wasn’t enough of a crisis, it is very common to have one grandmother caring for over ten children in a two- or three-room house on a government pension grant. This grant is the equivalent of $60 a month for all living expenses for that family. Due to the inflation and prices of food due to multiple economic and political factors, this money typically covers a family with your basic cornmeal, beans, sugar, salt, cooking oil, and soap for washing for 6 people for about 2.5 weeks.
