About This Project

Diaspora Church is a Gospel-centred, Christ-exalting, Bible-driven church plant at the heart of North York, Ontario. Our vision is to reach everyone everywhere with the good news of Jesus Christ.

We are diasporas of global origins seeking to make a global impact for Jesus Christ. “Diaspora” means “scattered” in Greek, and it refers to the scattered people of God. In the Old Testament, the Israelites were exiled and forced to disperse into other Gentile nations. In the New Testament, the Church suffered severe persecution and was forced to flee. However, our sovereign God had a missionary purpose for allowing harm against His people. We find in Acts 8:4 that “those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went.” The Diaspora Church was God’s appointed means to advance the gospel of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth. It was ordinary and displaced Christians who left their homeland to begin the explosion of Christianity across the globe!

In June 2022, the Diaspora Church of Toronto was birthed by several English-speaking congregations of the ethnic churches coming together. Many of us or our parents are immigrants, refugees, international workers, and students, but we do not see this as a disadvantage. Rather, we believe God has given us unique experiences, unique qualities of cultural intelligence, and the ability to speak many languages. God has strategically prepared and positioned diaspora Christians to reach the unreached people groups in our city and around the world.
