The Canadian donor team for Evangelical Church of Liberia (ECOL) provides salary subsidy for teachers, supplies for the medical team, and salaries for pastors.
ECOL began in 1997 as an amalgamation of churches that SIM missionaries had planted in Liberia. Over the years this ministry has grown to having 113 churches including 5 in Sierra Leone.
ECOL has nine Christian schools, 8 are located in Liberia and the other one is in Sierra Leone. There is a total of 81 teaching staff and about 780 students. The Canadian donor team currently provides $20 US / month for each teaching staff member, 12 months of the year via this fund.
ECOL’s medical team does evangelistic medical mission trips to rural areas of Liberia and occasionally beyond their borders to locations where the people have no other access to medical care. They typically take 25 to 28 volunteers including doctors, a dentist, nurses; and a pastor who does Bible teaching while people wait to be seen by the medical workers.
A majority of this fund provides financial support for 11 church planting pastors who bring the news of Jesus’ love into jungle regions where many of the people had been living in fear of evil spirits. These pastors receive $50 to $65 US / month via GCF Canada with a smaller amount contributed by local Liberian donors. A majority of the church planting work is being done along Liberia’s borders. The second group that this fund provides for is pastors of established churches in rural Liberia who receive less than $10 US / month from their congregation and depend on subsistence farming, hunting and fishing to survive. When we have more than we require to cover salaries for the church planting pastors we distribute money to this group of pastors in rural Liberia. Without cash it is impossible for them to buy Bibles, to travel to ECOL conferences where Bible training is provided, to travel for medical care or to get medicine for urgent medical needs.
Andrew & Eunice Kamoyo are a husband & wife teacher team, at Majahida Bible College in Tanzania, funded under Evangelical Church of Liberia. They also do evangelism on the weekends. The fund can also include supplies for the students & teachers of Majahida Bible College and maintenance for the building.
