Accra is the capital city of Ghana, where people from other parts of the country come to experience ‘’the supposed happy endings in life’’. This has left the city choked with slums and the majority facing impoverished lifestyles. Children of school-going age are significantly affected, since their parents or guardians must compete with the everyday influx of people into the city. These children, on their part to help their parents, are left on the streets begging for alms at the cost of their education. To build hope and spread the gospel of Christ for these vulnerable children resulted in the birth of the Kristodia Academy. At the Academy, we hope to raise leaders and shape nations in Christ to spread the gospel through education. The school was therefore established from personally generated funds on September 1, 2013, with just two kids in the preschool (crèche to nursery 2). Today, the school successfully champions its mandate to about 120 kids from Crèche to grade 6.
Despite the success of spreading the gospel to these kids through education, the school is not left with unfavorable challenges. Since parents have witnessed the impact of Kristodia Academy in the lives of their wards, the school continues to receive large numbers of school children every day with few classrooms to contain them. This condition sometimes commits the school to run on shifts in the morning and afternoon teaching sessions. However, most of the students live very far away from the school. Therefore, committing to these changes in the shift system has not been at their mercy. This notwithstanding, about 10 percent of the school children receive free education with no payment of fees since they come from very poor economic backgrounds but are very bright and needy compared to their peers. As a result this strains the school budget, since the money used in running the overall school expenditure is personally generate
Since the school wants to champion its core mandate to all these children, most of the solutions have been made with temporary remedies. Children who stay far away are taught virtually, and allowed to use complete onsite classroom sections on certain days. This allows them to engage with practical school activities such as how to conduct interactive sessions on Christian evangelism. When the school becomes overcrowded, children are schooled under canopies or sun shades outside their usual classrooms to provide equal access to teaching lessons.
However, all these remedies are relatively temporary, which puts enormous tension on facilitators. The school will therefore be glad if the Great Commission comes to its aid in providing extra classroom blocks and School buses to help raise leaders in Christ to spread the gospel to all nations. Christ came and died on the cross of Calvary so that all mankind will receive eternal salvation from all ills. It is the duty of all to put our hands on deck to realize this dream comes through. The Book of Acts, Matt. 28, and Mark 16 have given Kristodia Academy the urgent need to raise God as our salvation, and it is from this challenge that we call upon you to help us with these urgent needs.
